The Army, Navy and Air Force Unit 284 veterans club celebrates the 65th anniversary in the year 2011.

History: In 1946, thirty veterans approached from the Steveston area of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Club in Canada is looking for a own club for Veterans, ANAF Steveston Unit 284 was founded. The first clubhouse was above the Victory Cafe, on 2nd Avenue and Moncton Street. In 1947 the ANAF was 284, the Japanese fishermen Hospital bought transformation into a licensed club. 11 900 No. 1 Road, Richmond, the hospital was located in the current location in the heart of Steveston.
The members from ANAF pitched in and kept alive by the Charter meetings, where they could always find a place. Through all the main objective never changed the construction of a new clubhouse for the veterans.
In December 1959, almost three years later, her perseverance paid off and a new clubhouse was opened to the public. With the club now back in full swing, the membership turned their attention to the construction of senior citizen residences. Together with other Lower Mainland ANAF which they built their first two seniors' residences - one in North Vancouver and the other in Steveston. She later went on a high-rise building in Vancouver.
While the housing for the elderly was a priority in their minds, they never lost sight of the community in which they lived, and they continued their support of the community by donating large sums of money to organizations in need, such as: George Derby Hospital, the Variety Club Telethon, Richmond General Hospital, Steveston Community Centre, the Japanese Language School, Rosewood Manor and many other worthwhile organizations around the lower mainland.
In the year 2009 began the next chapter of ANAF contribution to the community and the veterans. The members of the ANAF Steveston Steveston Unit No. 284 was the 284 seniors' Housing Society in July 2009 to undertake the management of the development and construction of a 144 unit senior independent living option in conjunction with the new ANAF club house to be built. The new seniors facility and clubhouse will be built on the current page (11900 No. 1 Road).
